The Tucker International Difference
Focused
and Independent Company
Tucker International
is a private, family owned international human resource development
company that does not purport to be all things to all people.
Our sole service objective is to consult with each individual client
to create and deliver customized assessment and intercultural training
programs that help them to be effective in their international lives
and work.
Personal Touch for the Entire Expatriate Family
When client organizations
place their valued expatriating families in our hands for training
and development, they know that their people will long remember the
experience as warm and personal. We have been there. Moving
to a new country is a stressful and sensitive time. Our personal
and caring approach alleviates fears and develops confidence.
Cadre Of Senior Master Trainers
Tucker International
Senior Master Trainers take pride in our organization and represent
its values directly to program participants. Their commitment
is demonstrated by the fact that they have remained with the founders
of Tucker International for a long time, some more than fifteen years.
This cadre includes trainers who specialize in each region of the
world, speaking a local language, and being an expert in the history,
culture and business environment of major countries in the region.
They stay current with their information, often performing on-site
needs assessments prior to a new client assignment.
Outstanding
Country Resource People and Consultants
The founders of Tucker
International are among those who pioneered the inclusion of host
country resource people in intercultural training programs.
Often, it is these face-to-face discussions with host nationals that
participants value and remember most about our programs. But
these people must be current with their information as well as open
and willing to discuss a range of topics and issues about their country.
Our process of staffing and support ensures that only the most outstanding
resource people are included in our programs. Our consultants
also include renowned experts on international business and management,
who focus on the specific business culture of interest. When
spouses are included in our programs they benefit from direct discussion
with spouses who have successfully managed a "portable life" for themselves
and their families in the country of interest.
Highly Acclaimed
Youth Programs
Tucker International
continues its leadership in the training and preparation of young
people who are accompanying their parents on expatriate assignments.
Special needs-assessments with them and their parents ensure that
the programs are geared to their needs and capabilities. Our
Youth Trainers are experienced professionals who have lived with their
own children overseas, and some have taught at international schools.
Sessions on international parenting address the unique challenges
faced by expatriate families.
Work
and Social Sample Simulations
Tucker international
training programs delivered in groups for expatriates and those for
international business travelers include special simulations that
require participants to try out some of what they learn in other parts
of the program. These simulations are designed and delivered
by a Master Trainer who specializes in this training technique, and
they include appropriate host country role players. These are
not "off the shelf" simulations. They are created to approximate
actual situations to be faced by each client group.
Project and Multicultural Team Building
Tucker International
has been able to meld intercultural training with experiential team
building. Whether it includes a "high ropes" course at Breckenridge,
Colorado, a "ball toss" assignment on the grounds of the Lotus
Building, or a "blind squares" exercise in Uzbekistan, this melding
brings about better communication and team-work among expatriate project
groups or multicultural teams.
Follow-up
Evaluations
As a part of its commitment to excellence, Tucker International maintains a data-base of follow-up evaluations for our programs. Expatriates around the world receive an evaluation questionnaire after they have been in-country nine months or more. This evaluation data is used to continually improve our programs and ensure their relevance. To date, 96% of our graduates reporting from their country of assignment recommend our programs. Our most recent follow-up study was conducted on 136 people who work for 16 different companies in 27 countries of assignment and represent 9 different nationalities.
Pioneers
in the field
The principals at
Tucker International are among the few professionals who created the
field of intercultural services. In the 1960's, and 70's, we
were assessing and training Peace Corps Volunteers in Iran, Afghanistan,
Africa, Central America and Brazil. In the 1970's we were conducting
large-scale research on assessment and selection for international
assignment. In the late 1970's and early 1980's we were introducing
expatriate assessment and training into the private sector, counting
eight of the top ten Fortune 500 companies as clients. Today,
our select group of client organizations benefits from this accumulated
knowledge and experience.
Research
Based Assessment, Development and Training
Today, there any number of intercultural assessment and training instruments, designs and approaches. Are they valid and have they proven to lead to international success? Tucker International can say yes to this question. Our years of empirical field research has produced a set of factors that define what intercultural adjustment and success is all about. Our OAI-based Assessment Service predicts these outcomes, and our training and development services help to ensure that these outcomes will be met. On-going longitudinal research assures that these approaches remain valid in the changing global environment. |
